1.A TURNING POINT

A great turning point in our lives came when we sought for humility as something we really wanted, rather than as something we must have.

The darkness in my life changes to radiant light when I arrive at the realization that being truthful and honest in dealing with my inventory results in my life being filled with serenity, freedom, and joy. Trust in my Higher Power deepens, and the flush of gratitude spreads through my being. I am convinced that being humble is being truthful and honest in dealing with myself and God. It is then that humility is something I “really want,” rather than being “something I must have.”

2.JUSTIFIABLE ANGER

“It is a spiritual axiom that every time we are disturbed, no matter what the cause, there is something wrong with us. If somebody hurts us and we are sore, we are in the wrong also. But are there no exceptions to this rule? What about ‘justifiable’ anger? If somebody cheats us, aren’t we entitled to be mad? Can’t we be properly angry with self-righteous folk? For us in A.A. these are dangerous exceptions. We have found that justifiable anger ought to be left to those better qualified to handle it.”

Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 90

3.CARRYING THE MESSAGE

The wonderful energy the Twelfth Step releases, by which it carries our message to the next suffering alcoholic and finally translates the Twelve Steps into action upon all our affairs is the payoff, the magnificent reality of A.A.

4.UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS

One of the biggest stumbling blocks to recovery seems to be placing unrealistic expectations on… others. There will be times when other people will disappoint us.. either intentionally or because of indifference or incompetence. If we have been counting on them, their nonperformance can cause us real anger and frustration.
Our growth, however, should teach us that such failures are part of life.
