DAILY REFLECTIONS

1) Our first objective will be the development of self-restraint.

-TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 91

Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous pg. 60

2) The first requirement is that we be convinced that any life run on self-will can hardly be a success. On that basis we are almost always in collision with something or somebody, even though our motives are good. Most people try to live by self-propulsion. Each person is like an actor who wants to run the whole show; is forever trying to arrange the lights, the ballet, the scenery and the rest of the players in his own way. If his arrangements would only stay put, if only people would do as he wished, the show would be great. Everybody, including himself, would be pleased. Life would be wonderful.

FORGIVING AND MOVING ON

3) Today I see that truth and love are constant and more powerful than illusion. It is my belief in the illusion that keeps me powerless. Today, I am one with God.

Spiritual Awakening pg. 105

4) I grew up fearing a punishing, vengeful God. I was trying to stay sober by my own strength without God’s help. My program stagnated. I could not grow.

“Some of us have tried to hold onto our old ideas and the result was nil until we let go absolutely.” A few days after my relapse I was feeling soul- sick and willing (finally) to go to any length to stay sober. A friend suggested that I begin creating a new concept of a Higher Power
