DUTIES:
Facilitate and lead the monthly BM meetings. All the same duties as a SC member. Coordinate with the secretaries and other members of the SC to create and adhere to an agenda. All decisions go through the group. Use one’s best judgment regarding the discord that happens in a BM, and group members may need explanations and background to make an informed decision. The BM Chair may make a motion regarding a topic if no one else offers one. Additionally, the BM Chair can motion to table an issue if no agreement can be reached. Be mindful of potential solutions. Weigh out the voices in the room for a balanced motion/proposal. Look for the middle ground, keep a level-head, and practice fairness. Be mindful, respectful, and inclusive of the dissenting voices. Even if the dissent isn’t currently applicable, it may be applicable in the future because GC evolves over time. All motions/proposals that are “seconded” must be put to a vote. Ask for a timer prior to the BM- 2-minute shares. Start the meeting with the Serenity Prayer/12 Traditions. The Treasurer’s Report is always the first topic at the BM. BM Chair may motion to extend the meeting. Chairperson can extend the meeting when there is a long BM agenda and/or important matters that can’t wait. Always motion to close out the meeting. End the meeting with a prayer.
Read all of the previous BM notes, direct questions to the elder statesmen in the group regarding previous GC, be mindful of the 12 Traditions, and remain teachable. Be aware of what happens in the service threads, the SC feedback, and keep track of any issues that may require GC votes. Keeping one’s own notes for the BM/SC is highly suggested. Stay in contact with Schedulers, Trainers, ORC, Tech Team, Treasurer, and SC to make sure that their needs are being met in the group. The same BM topics may go through the BM review process twice before they are tabled, and then they can’t be revisited for 6 months.
