1.MAKING A.A. YOUR HIGHER POWER
“You can make A.A. itself your ‘higher power.’ Here’s a very large group of people who have solved their alcohol problem, many members have crossed the threshold just this way, their faith broadened and deepened, transformed, they came to believe in a Higher Power.”
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, pp. 27-28
2.SUNDAYS…
Friday was a letting go of all the worries, regrets, self-loathing, and so forth that came as part of living and feeling all things all the time and the beginning of a drunken sabbatical from the realities that remind me of living in this world. Then came Sunday. Sundays quickly turned from a heavenly dream to a hellish, depressing nightmare. Now my Sundays can be filled with friends and family, self reflection, praying and meditating and self care. Today I look forward to Sundays and setting my positive intentions for the week.
3.SPIRITUAL NOT RELIGIOUS
“When, therefore, we speak to you of God, we mean your own conception of God. This applies, too, to other spiritual expressions which you find in this book. Do not let any prejudice you may have against spiritual terms deter you from honestly asking yourself what they mean to you.”
Alcoholics Anonymous Pg 47
4.HELPING OTHERS
While deep in my alcohol addiction, I was about as self-absorbed as I could be. All my thoughts and behaviours revolved around the centre of my universe: me. When I started to care for others, my recovery began to flourish. I want others to know that there is another way to live, and it’s a life full of peace and freedom.
