1.CONFORMING TO THE A.A. WAY

We obey A.A.’s Steps and Traditions because we really want them for ourselves. It is no longer a question of good or evil; we conform because we genuinely want to conform. Such is our process of growth in unity and function. Such is the evidence of God’s grace and love among us. A.A. COMES OF AGE, p. 106

 2.COMING TO BELIEVE

The concept of ‘coming to believe’ is at the heart of the AA Third Step. It asks us to make a leap, not into certainty, but into willingness — the willingness to trust that something greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity. For many, this step is about faith, about trust in a Higher Power, about surrendering control.

3.BEING OF SERVICE

Simple and uncomplicated: giving of yourself and being of service to others in recovery is one of the best ways to strengthen your own recovery. In essence, you give and you receive. Twice blessed. “Our Twelfth Step – carrying the message – is the basic service that the A.A. Fellowship gives; this is our principle aim and the main reason for our existence.” Bill W.

4.LETTING GO OF OLD IDEAS

You won’t be able to change bad habits or bad thoughts instantly as recovery takes time. During active addiction, you probably developed coping skills that got you through life. It’s painful to realize that what helped you survive in the past isn’t going to work anymore. If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll probably keep getting what you’ve always gotten. To get better, you have to let go of old ideas and replace them with new ones and healthier ones.
