1) RIGHTING THE HARM
In many instances we shall find that though the harm done others has not been great, the emotional harm we have done ourselves has.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 79
2) WISDOM, PEACE AND SERENITY
“The first thing is to be honest with yourself. . . . Great peacemakers are all people of integrity, of honesty, but humility.” – Nelson Mandela
These qualities grow in us with recovery. The Big Book says that with Step Nine, “We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.”
3) SURRENDER TO WIN
On the face of it, surrendering certainly does not seem like winning. But it is in A.A. Only after we have come to the end of our rope, hit a stone wall in some aspect of our lives beyond which we can go no further; only when we hit “bottom” in despair and surrender, can we accomplish sobriety which we could never accomplish before. We must, and we do, surrender in order to win.
4) PAUSE
As we go through the day we pause, when agitated of doubtful and ask for the right thought or action.
