- EXPERIENCE: THE BEST TEACHER
Being still inexperienced and having just made conscious contact with God, it is not probable that we are going to be inspired at all times.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 87
Some say that experience is the best teacher, but I believe that experience is the only teacher. I have been able to learn of God’s love for me only by the experience of my dependence on that love. At first I could not be sure of His direction in my life, but now I see that if I am to be bold enough to ask for His guidance, I must act as if He has provided it. I frequently ask God to help me remember that He has a path for me.
- MAKING AMENDS – Step 9
“Made direct amends to such people wherever possible except when to do so would injure them or others.”
Good judgement, a careful sense of timing, courage and prudence – these are the qualities we shall need when we take Step Nine.
- BUILD BRIDGES NOT WALLS
The metaphor “building bridges, not walls” symbolizes the importance of empathy and connection amidst differences in society. It encourages reaching out to others, despite differences, to build understanding and harmony. All meaningful relationships are built on connection. It demands vulnerability, trust, and genuineness. When we form relationships with people, we develop a sense of belonging and support that goes beyond surface differences.
- FOCUS ON THE GOOD
‘When I focus on what’s good today, I have a good day. When I focus on what’s bad, I have a bad day. If I focus on the problem, the problem increases. If I focus on the answer, the answer increases.’
