September 27th, 2026 Steering Committee Meeting

SC Chair: Christian

Secretary: Lauren

SC Members Present: Justin F, Diana, Elle, Kristen, Lauren, Shawna, Gabi, Christian

  1. Jason’s Return To Service
    1. Jason: I am learning patience and growing. Learning how to navigate people and hard times. Old timers have taught me how to sit back and be patient when I’m frustrated. I’m deeply sorry to GUTS for everything I did. I would like a second chance to come back to service.
    2. SC Response
      1. Shawna-Thank you, Jason. I do remember that we had this conversation with the group a few months back. As long as we did not place a ban on service, I would like to move this forward to the Business Meeting for the group to make a decision.
    3. Motion
      1. Motion to send this topic to the Business Meeting.
        • Seconded and Passed (7 Yes Votes/No Dissent)
  2. Phil’s Feedback
    1. Phil: Sean keeps coming into the meetings and being disrespectful, disrupting and rude. Blowing up DMs; think he’s drunk while attending meetings. He shuts his camera off and on a lot.
    2. SC Response
      1. SC felt there wasn’t enough information on this issue. One SC member pointed out that Sean has been repeatedly removed from the meeting for his behavior. The SC will, at least, document this issue for future reference. It was also pointed out that members ought to show love and tolerance when a member behaves badly in a meeting. We should exercise caution before removing people from the meeting.
    3. Motion
      1. Motion to table this topic until there’s further information
        • Seconded and Passed (8 Yes Votes/No Dissent)
  3. Women’s Meeting Did Not Occur
    1. Melissa: Today is the first time I’ve ever actually taken the step to join a meeting and I was actually looking forward to it. I showed up 15 minutes early and waited patiently for the host to begin the meeting that started at 8:30 EST. It’s now 8:50 and I’m still waiting.
    2. SC Response
      1. The matter is considered resolved by Gabi. Gabi reached out to Melissa and the Women’s Meetings are now covered. We will not be taking this topic to the Business Meeting.
  4. Starting Meeting Earlier
    1. Kevin: Has any consideration ever been given to changing the starting time of the 7-hour marathon meetings from 10 PM EST to 7 PM EST? The reason being is that a lot of the people doing the last 3 hours of Host/Cohost meetings are wearing themselves down to poor health. East Coast and Central time zones have it pretty bad when they are doing the last half of the marathon meetings. I’m not going to name names, because you know who your late meeting hosts are and where they live. It’s very sad that West Coast people are scheduled for covering West Coast times of 7, 8 and 9 PM and being able to go to bedtime by 11:00 PM on the West Coast. Maybe I am wrong and they, East Coast people, are choosing those times to be of service. I just hear the complaints in the after-meeting breakout meetings. Something to ponder at least.
    2. SC Response
      1. Kevin-7pm is just a suggestion. I talked to one of the other GUTS members. Some of the members are suffering from health conditions. They have to stay up late. They need to stay up till four or five in the morning. I think everyone would enjoy going to bed sooner. I just threw in a hypothetical time adjustment. How are they supposed to be successful going to work if they have to stay up so late? I think it’s something to consider.
      2. SC Members pointed out that members are volunteering to fill in the later hours. If a member picks up a service shift during LNG, then that’s because they offered to do so. Service team members submit their availability to the schedulers. Members who cross their own boundaries to fill in the later spots are an individualistic issue. However, the SC felt that re-evaluating the meeting times would be worthwhile. It’s healthy for groups to re-evaluate core GC every so often. There was appreciation expressed for the consideration of members’ staying up late to do their service work.
    3. Motion
      1. Send this topic to the Business Meeting
        • Seconded and Passed (7 Yes Votes/1 No Vote)
  5. Intergroup Update
    1. Shawna: I’d like to give an update on our Intergroup Listings and ask the group about updating our remaining descriptions.
    2. Lauren: The Intergroup Update will be placed on the next BM Agenda.
  6. Unofficial Fellowship WhatsApp Thread
    1. Gabi: Share the Fellowship WhatsApp Thread. Add the Thread link back to the cohost blurbs so that it can be shared throughout the meeting. This might help prevent any further issues with keeping people updated about certain meetings not occurring in the future.
    2. Motion
      1. Motion to take this topic to the BM
        • Seconded and Passed (8 Yes Votes/No Dissent)

Closing – Voted to Adjourn

The meeting was adjourned with members encouraged to attend the upcoming Business Meeting.
